Questions tagged [family]

For any issues related to family or families. Whether it is the questioners family or someone else's family. Can be used for questions relating to gatherings for families.

A family is a group of people who are related to each other either biologically or legally through a marriage. Sometimes family titles are bestowed honorarily on very close friends (for example, a child my call a close friend of their parents "aunt" or "uncle" despite not being related by blood). There are two classifications for people who are related legally through a marriage. Relatives of one's spouse are considered family "in-law". For a person who has married, the spouse's children from a previous relationship are referred to as "step children" (and the person would be a step parent to those children). For a child whose parent has married someone who is not their biological parent, the step parent's relatives are also called step relatives (step grandparent, step cousin, etc).

This tag should be used for any issues related to family or families whether it is the questioner's family or someone else's family. It can be used for questions relating to gatherings for families. This tag encompasses all familial relations (biological, step, in-law, honorary).

Examples of Family Members Include:

  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Cousins
  • Aunts/Uncles
  • Descendants

Should be used with another descriptive tag for context e.g. or
